910 M Construction Starts
(More affordable housing!)

Construction has begun on 910 M Street, 150+ condo units at about half a mill each, purportedly already sold out.

At the moment, there is a city permit to sequester 8 feet on the south side of M Street for loading, etc. Glen Construction would have preferred to come in from L Street and not encumber M (or L) Street, but DCDOT apparently didn't like the idea. As Drudge would say: "Developing..."

Full time mother

As many of you know, I had a baby girl in June and have been away most of the summer on maternity leave. I am writing to let you all know that I have decided to resign from my position at the National Trust and become a stay at home mom. I would like to thank each of you for all of your support of my work in the Shaw/Mt. Vernon Square community. When I started working in the neighborhood four years ago, it was described to me as a “challenging place.” Although there were some days that I tended to agree with that description, it was a community that I grew quite attached to and ultimately came to love. The people of Shaw/Mt. Vernon Square have had a profound impact on me, both personally and professionally, and my greatest hope is that I have been able to give the neighborhood as much as it has given me. Although I am thrilled about my “new job,” I am sad to leave my position and will miss working with all of you. I wish you all the very best and hope that we are able to keep in touch. (I still frequent the UHOP Cafeteria, so don’t be surprised to see me there!). Take good care and I hope to see all of you soon.

Katie

An Explosion

Go here and here to see the demolition and interim improvement schedule for the old convention center site over the next several months. (Okay, it's not the exact date and time, but this is government work.)

A snail mail from the Convention Center said December 18 @7:30AM.

Alleys

The Alleys (Naylor and Blagden) are getting new plumbing and the street lights are getting fixed. That much we know. The are getting restored to "historical context", which presumably is cobblestone, brick, or faux-brick, potholes. The schedule of such events, and whether or not they will be coordinated better than the Redskins' offense is not known.
